Owner, inventor Mark Allan Wright says it is a challenge but it is exciting as well. He is excited to be part of the challenge. His biggest problem in the past was getting enough funds to place a minimum 10,000 game order with the manufacturer. He states “I had to go and invent a game of high quality and so that made it more expensive to produce. There are 240 plastic pieces alone plus 5 dice, cards, a game board, 7 denominations of money, six playing tokens and a box and tray to put it all in.”

In addition to the game he is producing he is also manufacturing, what Indiegogo calls Perks, to offer to people who support his campaign. $320,000 is a hefty goal he has to go for but he can’t do it for less. He has titled his campaign “Let’s Start a Dang Boardgame Evolution!” wanting people to realize that he created a game that people have said is as good as or better than Monopoly.

Now that is quite a statement to take on the big kid on the block still after all the years that Monopoly has been around and the amount of games it has sold, over 275 million, it is still the king. So is Commodity as good? Well a lot of players seem to think so and for that I think it deserves a comeback.

Players have also stated it is a totally different game. The only similarities are; it has dice, you move around the board and it has money, and that is where the similarities end as the rest of the game is totally and uniquely different. It is based on building a company. Players start off with a $200,000 loan that has to be paid back or paid interest on every time a player rounds the board. It makes for a challenging and exciting game and it would be a shame not to get it to market. Definitely worth looking at.

What does it take to make a good boardgame? Mark States, “It takes a Challenge for players, some decision making for players and possibly the most important, interaction between the players. Without that interaction there isn’t much of a game. Even though some games work on just, who crosses the finish line first but I believe in making a game with more than just that.”
