Friday is the Most Dangerous Day of the Week

The Injuries Board in the United Kingdom said that Sunday was the safest day to drive and Friday is the most dangerous; due to road accidents, that resulted in death or personal injury claims.

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board recently announced that most road accidents, which resulted in death or personal injury claims, occurred on Friday and the fewest occurred on Sunday. Last year, 7,622 awards were made and three out of four of the claims arose from traffic accidents. Of the road traffic accidents last year, one-in-four compensation payments to victims were made to drivers less than 35 years of age. The most accidents happened in the month of November, in road traffic accidents 104 someone was killed because of the accident.

Patricia Byron, chief executive at the Personal Injuries Assessment Board says, "Last year saw a 10% reduction in the number of claims we received for fatal road accidents but the 104 fatal claims we did receive is 104 too many. Our award trends indicate that the winter months are the most dangerous on our roads and we are urging all road users to be extra vigilant at this time."

The Injuries Board is an independent statutory body dealing with all personal injury claims except medical negligence. They provide an autonomous assessment of personal injury claims involving workplace, road traffic and public liability accidents, with the responsible party’s consent. Injured parties also have access to the courts when the person responsible for the accident does not consent.

The Injuries Board’s annual report shows that last year compensation totaling €218m was made from 10,136 awards for personal injury claims. Only 8% of accidents occurred at places of employment and 17% in public places. 75% of the claims involved road traffic injuries.

Comprising just 4% of awards, the safest drivers were over 55 years of age, while 35-44-year-olds represented 20.7% of the claims. The 25-34 age groups accounted for 26.8% of the claims. Women receiving claims were slightly higher than men at 51% and 49% respectively, and the average award for women was slightly higher at €21,103 compared to men at €20,133.
