Global payment service company Western Union has launched a new offer for customers in the UK who can now send money direct into bank accounts in India and Pakistan.
This new service will allow UK residents to go online and send money directly into a bank account in these countries.
Every year, it is estimated that around £500 million is transferred from the UK to India and Pakistan, The latest 2011 Census shows there are around five million residents from a South Asian background.
To launch the new service, Western Union is currently offering a 0% transfer free introductory offer.
The new service coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan which traditionally sees an increased activity during this period as people send money abroad for charity, a religious obligation, and for families and friends. There are over three million Muslims who reside in the UK.
Western Union also launched domestic money transfers as business correspondent to Kotak Mahindra Bank enabling Indians to send money directly into bank accounts in India.
Western Union’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Hikmet Ersek said, “Our goal is to serve our consumers anytime and anywhere. To achieve this, we are pursuing a multi-product, multi-channel strategy to enable consumers to manage their finances the way they want.”
He added: “It is a phenomenal achievement for Western Union consumers to be able to send international money transfers directly into bank accounts in up to 48 countries, now including India.
UK residents can now send money directly by visiting www.westernunion.co.uk Additionally, UK consumers who have a non-resident bank account in India can use Western Union to send money into these accounts.
