Parisleaf Spotlights Believe Dance Concert

Parisleaf recently launched their design and videography promotional package for Believe, a dance showcase at Treasure Coast High School in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Annually, the dance instructor, Amber Salo, hosts Believe to showcase her student’s skill through intricately choreographed dance pieces. As Believe continues to grow, the production that goes into the promotion organically grows as a result. When Salo chose the Wonders of the World as this year’s theme, she awarded Parisleaf complete creative freedom.

Through this freedom, Parisleaf created a multifaceted work of art that also happened to fit perfectly with Salo’s promotional needs.  This work of art consisted of a gorgeous video, a two-day photo shoot, and unique printed materials, including posters, programs and tickets.

The promotional package created a huge success for Believe and for Parisleaf. For each of the three nights, the auditorium sold all 800 tickets. Next year, Salo plans to have four showings, with the knowledge that the concert’s reputation along with cutting edge promotional materials can sell mass quantities of tickets. The designs gained both national and international attention from the design community through features on platforms like the Abduzeedo and Britain’s Design Week.

Salo invests so heavily in the promotion of her high school dance concert in order to increase ticket sales and to provide students with an incentive to work hard, so that they may be selected as a featured dancer on the promotional materials. This incentive keeps the students actively engaged with the dance program, which has in turn changed the lives of the dancers.

Salo says, “Students tell me that if it were not for dance class, they would have dropped out of school.  Also, that being in dance class provides great happiness because it is a major stress release and outlet for dealing with problems related to family and other aspects of school. With the students being the forefront of the dance concert’s theme and publicity, it creates a more engaging and personal experience for everyone involved, from dancers and their parents, to the 2,300 plus audience members”.

Parisleaf wanted to create a memorable experience for Salo’s dancers and for the audience members. When beginning the project, the firm found a theme that would help unite the imagery and story of the natural and historical Wonders of the World.  The Creative Director for Parisleaf, Patrick Sanders, discovered that the uniting ingredient connecting each one of these landmarks or natural wonders of the world is the human element.

The team took a dualistic approach to this project, creating two images for each wonder. For the initial concept, the team depicted the Wonder through vivid, artistic representation, with each individual dancer personifying the Wonder.  The second approach explored a more abstract representation, combining cultural elements and imagery associated with the Wonder.  This binary approach sought to evoke two different responses in the viewer.  The first was meant to inspire curiosity and awe, just like the landmarks do.  The second concept was meant to educate and instill a deeper understanding of the Wonder and the integral human connection.
