Most people in the industry thought it would take quite some time for the exorbitant pricing of the first 4K "Ultra HD" TVs to drop to reasonable levels. However, the heavy competition in the market is dropping the price of the high-end televisions on a daily basis. For example, LG's new LA9650 series Ultra HD TVs can now be purchased for as low as $3499.
At that price, the LA9650 series has approached the level of affordability for average consumers, according to Dealerscope. "This time last year we became the first manufacturer to launch an Ultra HD TV in the U.S. with our revolutionary 84-inch class model. Today, we're sliding our leadership role in Ultra HD TV by rounding out our lineup that displays 8 million pixels and incorporates technologies that allow consumers to enjoy Ultra HD picture even without 4K content," says the company.
The LA9650 series is also compatible with HDMI 2.0 so it will not be obsolete as soon as you have it delivered. LG is working on the same kind of firmware or service update. The only drawback with the television is the anemic speakers that come with most large screen televisions. To contest this trend, the company has introduced its new Sound Plate "sound console" that boosts the sound of the unit and acts as a TV stand. Since most dedicated home theater enthusiasts have a beefed up surround sound system this is a minor detail. The Sound Plate as well as the LG LA9650 series TVs will be ready to be shipped in Q4 2013, just in time for the holidays.
